1 organic mashed bananer
about 1/2 cup organic hemp granola
as much yummy raw organic honey you can tolerate
mash banana, pour granola on top and drizzle honey all over. stir it up, little darlin' and enjoy!

february. march. april.
let's see...i ended january by flying out to indiana for a week to move my cousin shawna out here to lucky d's. her (now) husband michael was stationed at camp pendleton in north county san diego. i flew home, saw family and friends for a few days, got some stuff out of storage to bring back with me. shawna and i drove her car back. we left monday at 1pm indiana time and we go to san diego at around 10pm thursday, i think. needless to say, it was a loooong drive. we were both sick on the way, so we had to take a lot of time to stop and rest. i'm sorry we didn't get to enjoy the road trip more. when we were in the mountains near payson, az the car died. we had to get towed and get it fixed. we were on our way a few hours later, but about two weeks after arriving in san diego, the car died on shawna as she was driving back from camp pendleton one night. it went to rest in peace in encinitas. life is better without cars.
february brought valentine's day and sometime around there, kevin asked me to marry him. it was a surprise, but he was serious and i of course can't live without his percussive flatulence and big hairy bod, so i said yes! we're thinking sometime in july 2012. far off, yes. but a magical year it will be. the age of aquarius is upon us!
sometime, i'm not sure when...we celebrated international women's day by having an all vegan, dumpstered dinner prepared by j and i. it was great to have female fellowship with all the gals here at the hostel. we also had a cross dressing party and made the guys dress like women and we were the guys. i had kev's old cornet and wore his clothes. we pretended to play poker, i even drank a beer! ha.
fast forward to march 21st...shawna and michael got married! they had been together for three years and were planning on getting married, it just happened quicker due to michael getting based for two years in north carolina. lots of legal red tape sped the whole marriage thing up. so we went to the courthouse in kearny mesa and it was done and done. i cried. it's hard to see your younger, nineteen year old cousin getting married. i remember when she was born. totally trips me out to think that she's married. i'll add some pictures later. we had a nice meal and i made a wedding cake for them, for a little reception here at the hostel. they're going to have a bigger wedding next year after michael's deployment is up.
let's see, kev and i spend any free time we do have at the beach or going to balboa park. april went by fast. my cousin tayler, shawna's brother came out for a week for his spring break. it was nice to have him out for a visit. i spent most of my free time baking and perfecting vegan recipes. kev is playing with two-three bands on a regular basis now. he's also picking up other gigs that are leading to more gigs.
we went to the earth day festival in balboa park and it was really amazing to see so many people out that day. hopefully each person learned a new (or several) ways to reduce their carbon footprint and put it into effect. we were really inspired and we got some organic basil plants and came home and planted them next to chira, our plant child.
kevin's friend bhakta dan came and visited san diego in march. he is a krishna monk based in nyc. he was one of kevin's best friends when they were both living in ann arbor. dan is an amazing person and such an inspiration. we first saw him on friday night chanting downtown. the krishnas come downtown every friday and walk up and down fifth and fourth chanting hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare. hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare. we started attending the krishna temple on sunday evenings about a month before dan came. we really like it their and have made some good friends with the monks. we also spent a day with dan in balboa park while he was here.
april was over so fast and now we're here at may. i've started a full time barista job, working monday-friday. i've also been able to acquire some purchasers for my vegan and organic baked goods. they are selling like hotcakes and i'm super proud of them (and myself!)
just when i was about to get fed up with being frustrated with lack of income, all these blessings came about without really trying. a friend randomly offered the job to me, because she left for a month to do a course up at yosemite. and the baking just happened...didn't really think i was ready to sell, but here i am.
i've been baking about 2 hours a night. so that puts me at 40 hours at the cafe a week, 20 at the hostel, and about 14 baking. my only day off from the hostel/cafe is sunday. that is my sleep in/beach day. i cannot wait! :)
kevin and i are going to be purchasing bikes within the next month. it's pretty exciting to be able to ride whenever we want. kevin is playing a show with our friend james musselman aka longsleeves at dawn mitschele's cd release party this month. i think billy will be playing also. should be a good time, kev's excited. :)
we are also getting really excited about my grandpa and grandma coming to visit at the end of june for a week. i think we are going to go snorkeling and we're going to go up to hollywood for a day to show my grandma the walk of fame and mann's chinese theatre. still planning other fun things to do.
we've been making a concious effort to most if not all of our shopping at the ocean beach people's food cooperative that we are now members of. i made an excellent roasted root vegetable soup last week and we still have some left that we're eating on. i'll post that and some other recipes later on.
more and more we are reaping the benefits of a plant based diet and an organically based diet. the less processed goods (bads?) we put into our bodies, the better they run, the better we think, the better we feel. i'm starting to make some raw recipes i used to use often and i'm trying to find some good new ones. we spend almost all of our money on food, but it is WORTH IT to give our bodies the sprouts, the kombucha, the delicious fruits and vegs, the mate, the coconut water, the nuts, the quinoa, and all the other amazing goodies we find that come from the EARTH.
i seriously challenge you to switch to a plant based diet and stop consuming meat and dairy if possible. you will FEEL the difference and feel alive.
spirtually, lately i've been realizing that i have nothing to complain about. i can only be grateful for all things that i've been blessed with. food, water, the sea, clothing, etc. any of that which causes us any suffering can be identified and remedied. all we have to do is want to change that which we cannot connect with and feel good from. all suffering can be put to rest just as quickly as it came.
after awhile, you really have no suffering. be in the NOW. love in the NOW. peace in the NOW.
what are you suffering from? and how can you begin to end your suffering?
